THE CHALLENGE

Twisted Sista had something a lot of brands spend years trying to manufacture: personality. Born in London and reimagined in New York City, it was a brand that already had cultural DNA, a devoted community, and a product that genuinely worked for textured hair. What it needed was a creative partner who could translate that energy,  the irreverence, the movement, the unapologetic celebration of curls,  into a consistent, scalable visual language.

The challenge wasn’t to invent the brand. It was to amplify what already existed and make sure that every piece of content, across every platform, at every touchpoint, felt unmistakably Twisted Sista.

This wasn’t a one-off campaign. It was an ongoing creative relationship that required maintaining brand energy across years of output,  product photography, social content, campaign films, animated assets, event materials, and more,  without ever going flat or repeating itself.

THE APPROACH

The creative strategy started with a truth about the audience: Twisted Sista customers don’t just use the product, they identify with it. Textured hair, in this community, is more than a hair type. It’s a statement. The brand’s visual identity needed to carry the weight of that.

The design approach was intentionally high-energy and unapologetic. Saturated color palettes. Kinetic movement in every digital asset. Photography that captured texture, motion, and personality simultaneously, not polished, sterile product shots, but images with life in them. GIF-based social content designed to stop thumbs mid-scroll. Campaign films built on rhythm and attitude rather than narrative formulas.

The multi-year engagement meant the creative work had to evolve while remaining coherent,  introducing new product lines, seasonal campaigns, and platform formats without losing the thread of what made the brand feel alive.

WHAT WE BUILT

Product Photography A visual library of product and lifestyle photography that balanced bold art direction with the raw, kinetic energy the brand demanded, images built to work at product level and campaign scale.

Social Media Design System A motion-first content system, animated GIFs, short-form video loops, and kinetic typography, was all designed for Instagram and platform formats that reward visual energy. Assets that felt native to each platform without losing brand coherence.

Campaign Films Multiple short-form films capturing the movement, texture, and attitude of the Twisted Sista community. High-energy cuts built for digital distribution, with a visual pace that matched the brand’s personality.

Event & Experiential Design Large-format event mural and experiential banner design that translated the brand’s digital energy into physical space — ensuring that in-person brand moments landed with the same impact as the digital content.

Gifting & Packaging Extensions Gift box design and product bundling concepts that extended the brand experience into retail and promotional touch points.

THE OUTCOME

Over a multi-year creative engagement, Twisted Sista’s visual output evolved from a brand with potential into a brand with a defined, recognizable aesthetic that its community could see itself in. The content system built across social, video, and experiential continued to serve the brand across multiple campaign cycles, each new asset adding to a growing library of work that stayed consistent without becoming repetitive.

The brand’s visual identity became one of the most distinctive in its category, not because it followed what hair care brands typically look like, but because it refused to. That decision to lead with attitude and movement over convention is what gave Twisted Sista its shelf presence, its social presence, and its cultural presence simultaneously.

The engagement extended across multiple years and multiple campaign generations,  the truest signal that the creative direction was working.
